Abstract

This presentation will discuss the capabilities for materials research in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at Idaho National Laboratory (INL). Brief descriptions will be given for selected projects being currently executed. The presentation seeks to provide a better understanding of the work and the research and development challenges being tackled at INL, so as to foster avenues for collaborative work for the mutual benefit of NCSU and INL.

Biography

Dr. Gabriel Ilevbare is manager of Idaho National Laboratory’s Materials Science and Engineering Department. He earned his doctorate in materials science and metallurgy at University of Cambridge and his bachelor’s in industrial chemistry at Nigeria’s University of Ibadan. Before taking up the position at INL in 2016 he was employed by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in Palo Alto, Calif., as senior technical leader and senior project manager. He led national and international technical networks and alliances of manufacturers, research organizations, consultants and academics, in collaborative endeavors for creating, building and sharing resources for effective management of technical issues. He helped develop long-term strategic management of product/component to ensure safety and reliability for nuclear power plant operations. He has also worked on programs of national importance in nuclear waste stewardship (Yucca Mountain Project) and aerospace (United State Air Force Office of Scientific Research).  He has over 20 years’ experience in materials degradation management, surface reactions and corrosion issues.
