Palmtag wins NC State Outstanding Teacher Award

Congratulations to Dr. Scott Palmtag, research professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering at NC State University, and recipient of the 2023-24 Outstanding Teacher Award.

Dr. Palmtag served as the Chief Technologist for the Consortium for Advanced Simulation of Light Water Reactors (CASL) and was instrumental in the development of the VERA Core Simulator. He also served as a teaching associate professor (2014-2018) before becoming a research professor (2018 to present) in the Department. He teaches the Fundamentals of Nuclear Engineering course and serves as a senior design project faculty member. Prior positions held include Engineering Technical Lead at GE – Global Nuclear Fuels and senior nuclear engineer at Studsvik Scandpower.

His research interests include reactor physics, computational reactor physics, and multiphysics modeling.

Up to three faculty from the College of Engineering are awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award each year. Recipients become members of the Academy of Outstanding Teachers for as long as they are NC State faculty members.
