Faculty Retreat

The Nuclear Engineering Department held their biennial faculty retreat on Saturday, January 19 at the Pinehurst Resort. The main goal of this year’s retreat was to develop a ten-year vision plan. Once established, the vision plan will be a mechanism to communicate effectively the research directions, staffing needs, and facility acquisitions and upgrades of the entire department

It was also an opportunity for faculty to share with each other the breadth and outlook of ongoing research in each of the department’s research thrust areas:

  • Nuclear Computation Science
  • Nuclear Materials, Waste Forms and Storage
  • Nuclear Power Design and Safety Analysis
  • Nuclear Reactor Program
  • Nuclear Security and non-Proliferation
  • Plasma Science and Engineering
  • Radiation Science and Engineering

Katharina Stapelmann appreciated the gathering as a method to formulate a better picture of all the various research in the department. “I am only in my second year at NCSU and this retreat created an occasion to fully comprehend all the areas of the expertise in our department,” she explained.
