Congratulations to Dr. John Mattingly, Associate Professor in NC State’s Department of Nuclear Engineering, he was selected as one of NC State’s 2018-19 University Faculty Scholars.

Mattingly leads the RADIANS research team of graduate students, undergraduate students and postdoctoral scholars.  Their projects apply modeling and simulation to analyze nuclear radiation measurements for nuclear security applications, including arms control, safeguards, nonproliferation, counterterrorism, emergency response and forensics.

John is also the Principal Investigator and Chief Scientist for the Consortium for Nonproliferation Enabling Capabilities (CNEC). In 2014 NC State was awarded a five-year, $25 million grant by the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation Research and Development to develop the next generation of leaders with practical experience in technical fields relevant to nuclear nonproliferation. CNEC comprises seven partner universities and four national laboratories.

Prior to joining the NC State’s Nuclear Engineering, Mattingly worked for 15 years at Oak Ridge and Sandia National Laboratories.

Established in 2012, the University Faculty Scholars Program recognizes and rewards emerging academic leaders and scholars for their teaching, research and community engagement. This year’s twenty tenured/tenure-track faculty, may use the title “University Faculty Scholar” for the duration of their faculty appointment at NC State and they receive a permanent increase to their base salary.
