About Nicholas:

Nicholas Sponsel is a research member and PhD candidate of the Plasma for Life Sciences (PLS) laboratory whose research focus is on electric breakdown at liquid interfaces in bubbles. By leveraging bubble-triggered timing imaging techniques, he investigates how variables such as bubble shape, electrode configuration, and electrical pulse characteristics influence plasma behavior in and at the liquid interface.

His contributions to the lab are marked by a strong collaborative spirit, working with both the Computational Multiphase Research Group, the Ultrafast Spectroscopy Group, and the Princeton Collaborative Low Temperature Plasma Research Facility out of PPPL. Through these collaborations, he has advanced the understanding of plasma-liquid interactions, paving the way for novel diagnostic applications in material science and beyond.

With the support of the prestigious Nuclear Energy University Program (NEUP) Graduate Student Fellowship, Nicholas has consistently demonstrated both the intellectual curiosity and the methodological rigor that are the hallmarks of a promising researcher, and wishes to carry on his growth in interesting research after completing his PhD.
