Sophia Carson

Sophia Carson, a resident of Greensboro, North Carolina, is a rising sophomore pursuing a double major in Chemical Engineering and Economics. Motivated by the presence of food deserts in her community, Sophia is passionate about working on developing plasma-based fertilizers to address the issue of limited food access. With their interdisciplinary background, they aim to create sustainable solutions that enhance crop yields while considering economic feasibility. Sophia is grateful for the opportunity provided by the Grand Challenge Scholars Program, which has provided her the opportunity to study with Dr. Katharina Stepelmann on the “Fertilizers of the Future” project.
