Senior Justin Cohen to work at SpaceX

Congratulations to Justin Cohen, undergraduate senior in nuclear engineering. He will be joining the Radiation and Electromagnetic Environmental Effects team at SpaceX as an Associate Engineer.

Justin Cohen, undergraduate seniorCohen will be testing/modeling spacecraft hardware to ensure it can withstand space radiation environments, particularly for the longer interplanetary journey to Mars. He will be working with SpaceX’s newest, largest and most ambitious vehicle, Starship. In addition, Justin could also work with hardware for SpaceX’s Starlink satellites, a large constellation with the goal of providing low latency broadband internet across the globe. Another project he is excited about is Dragon, a free-flying spacecraft designed to deliver both cargo and people to orbiting destinations. It is the first private spacecraft to dock with the International Space Station (ISS) and is participating in NASA’s commercial crew program with the goal of launching astronauts to the ISS from U.S. soil.

His research experiences have been with the NC State’s Nuclear Engineering Undergraduate Research Program, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, Atmospheric Plasma Solutions, LPP Fusion, and the Nano EXtended Textiles (NEXT) research group at the NC State’s Wilson College of Textiles. Justin is from Nyack, NY.
