Kropaczek Named Oak Ridge National Lab Director of CASL

Dr. David J. Kropaczek has assumed the Director of the Consortium for Advanced Simulation of Light Water Reactors (CASL) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), effective this August.

Combining his extensive experience in industry, expertise in nuclear modeling and simulation, and recent work as Chief Scientist of CASL, Dr. Kropaczek will provide excellent leadership. He brings more than 25 years of nuclear experience to ORNL, most recently serving as the Duke Energy Distinguished Professor in Nuclear Engineering at North Carolina State University (NCSU), one of CASL’s founding partners. Since 2016, his work as CASL’s Chief Scientist included interacting with the Science and Industry councils and using their input to help shape the overall research directions.

From 2007- 2016, Kropaczek served in various leadership positions at Studsvik Scandpower, Inc., including leading the company as President and Chief Executive Officer for 3 years.
