Mr. Faramarz Pournia

Biography

Mr. Faramarz Pournia currently works at Southern Nuclear Operating Company in Birmingham, AL. He is the Director of the Risk-Informed Engineering Department for the Southern Nuclear fleet. Before that, he was the site Engineering Director at Vogtle 1&2.

Mr. Pournia came to Southern Nuclear in 2013 from Exelon Operating Company. Mr. Pournia worked at Exelon for over 12 years. While at Exelon, Mr. Pournia worked as engineering director and Project director for all large equipment updates and various station power uprates for Exelon mid-west and mid-Atlantic Nuclear Power stations.

Prior to coming to Exelon, Mr. Pournia worked for 17 years at Sargent & Lundy Engineers in Chicago. Mr. Pournia has a BS and an MS degree in Nuclear Engineering with a Minor in Math and computer science from Mississippi State University. Mr. Pournia has worked on various reach projects with INL, Oak Ridge, and the NRC Reach branch on various projects. Currently, Mr. Pournia is collaborating with INL on the ATF fuel risk improvement and the 3D fire model realism.
