[Seminar] Overview of Multi-Unit Nuclear Plant Risk and Performance of a Multi-Unit Probabilistic Risk Assessment

November 4 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Event Navigation

Mr. Dennis Henneke
Consulting Engineer
GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy

The presentation will cover an Overview of Multi-Unit Nuclear Plant Risk and performance of a Multi-Unit Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA). The presentation will briefly discuss the multi-unit aspects from the Fukushima-Daiichi event and the resulting industry initiatives that resulted. It will then focus on the development of the IAEA Multi-Unit PRA safety report, with some discussion on the development of the American Nuclear Society Multi-Unit PRA standard scheduled to be issued in 2022. Additionally, the presentation will  cover a few slides of some of GEH’s work in MUPRA for PRISM and the ABWR, and then go through the IAEA approach to performing a multi-unit risk assessment as time permits.

Dennis is a Consulting Engineer in GEH Nuclear Energy, with over 39 years of PRA experience. He is the technical lead for the PSAs supporting the BWRX-300, VTR, and Natrium Reactors, was the Principal Investigator for the DOE Funded project for the PRISM reactor on “Development/Modernization of an Advanced Non-LWR Probabilistic Risk Assessment,” and was the Technical Lead for the UK ABWR PSA development completed in 2018. He is currently supporting the industry initiative for Technical Inclusive Content of Application (TICAP) and supported the pilot application for both TICAP and the Licensing Modernization Project (LMP). Dennis has authored or co-authored more than 100 publications, including the recently issued IAEA Safety Report on Multi-unit PSA.

Dennis is the ANS-Chairman of the ANS/ASME Joint Committee on Nuclear Risk Management (JCNRM), and has supported PRA standard development since 1999. Prior to coming to GEH, Dennis worked at Duke Power and Southern California Edison supporting Risk-Informed Applications such as Risk-Informed Technical Specifications and NFPA-805. Dennis has supported PRAs for more than 35 plants around the world. Dennis received his MS and BS in Nuclear Engineering from University of Florida, but supports NCSU through his daughter Yasmine – who is a 5th year Senior in Zoology and Animal Science.
