Financial Aspects and Job Opportunities

Financial Aspects

Excellent financial aid, in the form of fellowships and research and teaching assistantships, is available to qualified applicants. Fellowship programs that the Department is authorized to administer include DOE fellowships in computational engineering, nuclear engineering, waste management and fusion engineering; the Institute for Nuclear Power Operations fellowships; and the School of Engineering's Dean's fellowship. GANN Fellowships in Computational Science and NSF Traineeships in Computational Science are also available to our graduate students.

Job Opportunities

Master's graduates with U.S. citizenship usually receive job offers from employers such as utility companies, national laboratories, nuclear service companies, government, and vendors for nuclear installations. Ph.D. graduates in nuclear engineering are employed by private research laboratories, national laboratories, and government agencies in research positions. A small number of doctoral graduates go to academic positions at universities.
